Quel Nightmare

In my last blog I told you that we would have the big reveal this week. I was really hoping I could do it, but I’m still recovering from COVID so it has slowed things down a bit. I decided to finish the exterior instead, and hopefully be ready for the interior reveal next week.
I’m pretty sure that my next project will require no carpentry. I don’t mind the interior design, but I have had a lot of challenges with the actural structure. I started with two Ikea miniature houses, pictured on the left. To create the front elevation I added eight inches and changed the roof to a hip roof with dormers. This is Building 1.

The side elevation is Building 2 with an add-on to accommodate the door to the Drawing Room. My son-in-law, Kevin cut the door out for me and I added hinges to attach it to the side of Building 1. The idea of having that piece on hinges was to fold it in, thus making it easier to move, but had I thought it through - well, I may not have started this project at all if I had really thought it through. That being said, I changed the plan so often that in the end it didn’t make sense to fold it back. It is what it is.
Five minutes after taking the above picture, I accidentally knocked Bldg 2 off the table and scattered the bedroom and kitchen contents all over the floor. Thankfully, the only things that broke are easily fixed, so it was just a matter of making sure I picked up every fallen piece. I put a new bag in my vacuum cleaner and managed to get a few more pieces that would have gone unnoticed. The fine china is in the dining room, not the kitchen. The vacuum picked up an egg cup, a candle stick, some tiny pieces for the bed and a blade for my exacto knife. Good thing!
Once the door piece was attached, I added the floor and inserted the stair case that leads to the Austen sisters bedroom. Then I put everything back in place, and painted the window frames. The outer brick needs to be patched in places and changed in others. I wrecked the paper by going too fast and not lining it up to match where the two structures join. No pictures at this time, because I have to get more brick.
The final thing I’m working on is increasing the height of the attic from what would be the equivalent of four feet to at least six feet so that the imaginary servants can walk upright.
It’s all good.
